Grace mercy and peace, from Christ our Lord, be with you all. Amen.

As they say there is no rest for the weary.

It seems like I just finished writing my last newsletter article, when my monthly and annual reports were due, and no sooner than the congregational meeting is over, that my next newsletter article is due.

But then you look at what is happening with the church year as well… and we read this:

“The Epiphany season serves as a bridge between the birth of Jesus and his passion.” The church moves from the nativity of our Lord to the time when Jesus begins his public ministry following his Baptism in the Jordan river. The worshipping community hears the stories anew of Christ’s first miracles and teaching, and through these Scriptures we are shown the divinity of the Light of the World. We walk with Christ in the glorious light of God.

And then I realized that whereas I am struggling to manage my time with the church, and all the new denominational reporting that comes along with being part of the NALC, and then I started to think about what it was that our Lord was preparing for, and the struggles He must have been facing, and it places a new light on what I thought I was facing. It certainly pales in comparison. But I also want the rest of us to give some thought to what is facing St. John’s. We are looking at putting together the committee to go over and present the Constitution and By-laws for the congregation. Then once that is done then you can start the process to call a pastor.

Just because we took the vote to join the NALC doesn’t mean the work is over. We still have a lot yet to do. So please join with me as we begin our journey to the cross, and we further identify our involvement with the larger church as well as set the time to reflect on our selves, and our own relationship with the church.

Peace, Pastor Paul
