Bible Verse of the Day

Matthew 2:4-6
“When he had called together all the people?s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. ?In Bethlehem in Judea,? they replied, ?for this is what the prophet has written: ??But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.??”

Grace mercy and peace from Christ who is our Lord, be with you all. Amen.

Well it is almost here… the Christmas season. And I know everyone goes on and on about how it seems that people decorate earlier and earlier each year, and how the stores try to do so much to get you to go and shop and buy at their stores, and so on and so forth…

And we all know the reason behind the season, to celebrate the gift of Immanuel, God is with us. And that is a small reason why we get so bogged down with giving gifts; we give gifts to each other to remind each other of the gift given to us.

But I might want to suggest something a little different, rather than just giving gifts of toys, and scarves, or whatever fancy bobble others want, give a portion of yourself. Something that will truly remind others of who you are and why they love you. Who really needs another sweater, or another toy that will be broken before the kids get back to school in a week or two. But the one thing that we all remember is the gift of our self. The gift that we give where we spend time together, playing, laughing, and having fun together.

If you want to give a gift, give something that you can all do together as a family, something that will help make memories, NOT JUST a gift of metal or plastic… but a gift of your time, and when we think about it isn't that the most precious gift of all? Who wouldn't want the gift of just a little more time with those that we love and have passed?

This Christmas, give the gift that really matters, give a gift that will make all the difference in the world to those that you love, that love you, and to those who are around you. Give the gift of some of your time, because that is the most precious commodity around.

Amen.

Peace,
Pastor Paul D. Hansen
